Welcome to the Halifax Rainbow Encyclopedia, the portal for the 2SLGBTQ+ / Gay / Q people in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada

The goal of the Halifax Rainbow Encyclopedia is to hold a page for every person, place, thing and event of relevance to the Q society in Halifax, ever. As of January, we have over six hundred thousand words in two thousand finished pages, works-in-progress, or article stubs, and about thirty five hundred images and several dozen hours of audio and video recordings.

The Halifax Rainbow Encyclopedia (H•R•E) is designed for simple storage and retrieval of facts, stories, and indexes to the locations of others. Here are some tips for doing research.

Nova Scotia Rainbow Action Venture (NSRAP)

NSRAP seeks equity, justice, and human rights for 2SLGBTQIA+ people in Nova Scotia. NSRAP seeks to create change in our communities so that all 2SLGBTQIA+ people are included, valued, and celebrated. We will achieve this through building community and developing strong networks outside of the community in addition to universal outreach, education, and political action.

  • Elderberries
    Elderberries is a Halifax-based non-profit group of 2SLGBTQ+ persons aged fifty-plus, along with families, friends, and supporters. We meet once or twice monthly for social potlucks and guest speakers; offer a Speakers' Bureau to schools and community groups; provide a contact point for community-related research projects; promote consciousness of local 2SLGBTQ+ history and literature; and involve in political activism.

    GET OUT HALIFAX is a group for everyone interested in finding gender non-conforming community and events that do not involve alcohol, parades, or nightclubs but instead revolves around the outdoors and recreation.
  • Glitter Bean Cafe
    Glitter Bean Cafe is a queer-centric, unionized, worker-owned co-op offering specialty coffees, teas, baked treats, clear fare, liquor service, catering, venue rental and people events! They are a great source of people information, often running fundraisers and in general offering a safe space for the queer community in Halifax.
