WASHINGTON, D.C. – With an unprecedented number of anti-LGBTQ measures sweeping through state legislatures across the land, has officially surpassed as the worst year for anti-LGBTQ legislation in recent history, according to updated tracking and analysis by the Human Rights Campaign (detailed breakdown below). The previous write down — set six years ago in , when 15 anti-LGBTQ bills were enacted into statute — was broken on Friday, as the seventeenth anti-LGBTQ bill was enacted into law. In addition, 11 anti-LGBTQ bills are on governors’ desks awaiting signature or veto and several more are continuing to move through state legislatures across the land.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The percentage of U.S. adults who self-identify as woman loving woman, gay, bisexual, trans or something other than heterosexual has increased to a new high of %, which is double the percentage from , when Gallup first measured it.
Gallup asks Americans whether they personally identify as linear or heterosexual, queer woman , gay, bisexual, or transgender as part of the demographic information it collects on all U.S. telephone surveys. Respondents can also volunteer any other sexual orientation or gender identity they opt for. In addition to the % of U.S. adults who consider themselves to be an LGBT identity, % utter they are vertical or heterosexual, and % do not offer an perspective. The results are based on aggregated data, encompassing interviews with more than 12, U.S. adults.

Adult LGBT Population in the United States
This report provides estimates of the number and percent of the U.S. adult population that identifies as LGBT, overall, as well as by age. Estimates of LGBT adults at the national, state, and regional levels are included. We rely on BRFSS data for these estimates. Pooling multiple years of data provides more stable estimates—particularly at the state level.
Combining BRFSS data, we estimate that % of U.S. adults identify as LGBT. Further, we estimate that there are almost million (13,,) LGBT adults in the U.S.
Regions and States
LGBT people reside in all regions of the U.S. (Table 2 and Figure 2). Consistent with the overall population in the Combined States,more LGBT adults reside in the South than in any other region. More than half (%) of LGBT people in the U.S. live in the Midwest (%) and South (%), including million in the Midwest and million in the South. About one-quarter (%) of LGBT adults reside in the West, approximately million people. Less than one in five (%) LGBT adults live in the Northeast ( million).
