Did you know that as of February , Gallup found that percent of US adults openly culture as LGBTQ+? (That's lesbian, gay, bisexual person, trans, queer, and other non-straight identities.) That’s a lovely staggering statistic, given that just 10 years earlier, only percent of respondents identified themselves as LGBT.
Therefore, more than 20 million adults self-identified as Queer in the US as of That doesn’t even involve people who aren’t sure or publicly out about how their identities! The true number of LGBTQ+ American adults today could be millions more.
If you’re unsure about your sexual orientation, grant us be the ones to say you that you certainly aren’t alone. There’s a whole, wide world of people out there who can relate to you, intimately. Most queer people have had to come to some place of awareness about our possess sexual orientations. It isn’t always progressive or so plain a process. For many of us, queer coming-of-age includes looking in the mirror at some point in our lives and wondering, “Am I gay?”

The chokehold the ‘Am I Gay’ quiz had on my younger years
As a young closeted gay child in a heteronormative society, there was nothing more crushing yet eye-opening than ruling out you’re gay from the aptly-named “Am I Gay” Internet quiz.
I was 12 years vintage and in seventh grade when I first took the dastardly quiz. Before this, I was a normal kid that did normal kid things — or at least I thought so. I had a crush on Katniss Everdeen from “The Starvation Games.” In my elementary educational facility playground, I was wedded to one of my girl finest friends in a fabulous fairy-themed wedding. All of my many girl friends attended, while the boys were out in the grass playing soccer. Looking advocate on these memories, I realized that there was definitely something a little different about me.

Some people wonder, "Am I gay?" and "How do you realize if you are gay?" and sometimes they trails this up by taking something like an "Am I Gay Quiz" that might be found online. But are "Am I Gay?" quizzes of any value? Is an "Am I Gay?" test accurate?
Am I Gay Test
In the s and s, anti-gay sentiment was rampant (read: Gay Discrimination and Stigma and How to Cope) and a "homosexuality test" was developed in Canada. During this test, subjects were made to view images ranging from benign to pornographic while their pupil size was recorded. It was thought that the pupils would dilate (get larger) in response to sexual interest in the image shown.1
Funding for this test ended in the s when it became clear that this test was scientifically inaccurate and based on faulty premises. Of the many problems with the check was the assumption that there were only two possible sexualities (heterosexual and homosexual) and that pupil dilation would, indeed, vary in heterosexual and gay populations.
