I was reading an homosexual travel guide from , and it reminded me that I've never understood the mechanics of the toilet pick-up. One of the notable features of the guide is that among all the bars and bathhouses listed, many locations also propose cruising toilets. This seems soinherently sketchy. How would you know when it was safe to signal to somebody? Don't you jog the constant chance of an embarrassing and dangerous confrontation? Do you actually have sex in the bathroom, or is a appointment point? And given that these locations are so successfully established that they appear in a travel guide, wouldn't they be manageable pickings for the police?
Any info or stories about etiquette and uncertainty mitigation would be of interest.
Bonus points if you can illustrate how toilet cruising worked in an international context. After a strong warning about how unsafe cruising is in the Middle East, for example, the guide lists toilets in Syria and Kuwait. There are similar listings throughout the world. While cruising in the U.S.
Anyone know which of those was most frequent? Like I said, it seems like a hoax to me, but then I guess it was harder to meet homosexuals back then which would explain why you don’t see as many notes now (more acceptance). Public toilets? I imply, what is that about? I myself have some difficultly conceiving the erotic charge that these venues appear to offer.
And that whole ‘peephole drilled in the cubicle wall’ thing? If you need to see a naked bloke and you are one, is there not an obvious and economical remedy to that dilemma?
I own a suspicion pissing people off is a significant motivation for this behaviour. Is that true, even if it comes only from aggressive indifference? And I can’t really watch how anybody could enable go normal decorum in that manner.
