LGBTQ+ youth life a much higher risk of homelessness than their peers. Once on the street, they encounter additional hardships because of stigma and discrimination. This is the reality for LGBTQ+ youth across all of the cities where Covenant House works.

Why Do LGBTQ+ Youth Exposure Homelessness?
Like many youth facing homelessness, it's often not just one thing that causes them to experience homelessness. Some may be facing poverty or subjected to abuse in the home, while others may have aged out of the foster care system.
But the most common reason that LGBTQ+ youth experience homelessness is family conflict due to their gender identity or expression or their sexual orientation. Many adolescent people tell us heartbreaking stories

Welcome to Trinity Place
Our mission is to aid homeless lesbian, gay, bisexual person, transgender or questioning (LGBTQ*) youth in New York City to safely transition out of the shelter system and grow into independent, positive, and working adults.
Trinity Place Shelter is a non-sectarian, bed transitional shelter that is accessible all year to provide LGBTQ youth with a safe place to slumber, eat, store belongings, and have access to transportation. Through strong local group partnerships, we are competent to provide access to comprehensive medical services, case management, education, career counseling, art classes and mental health services. All youth referred to Trinity Place have been identified as interested in, or are actively seeking, employment or schooling.
We provide a one-of-a-kind, family-like environment where the youth receive the respect, individualized care, and basic services so often denied them. There are as many as 10, LGBTQ youth currently living homeless in NYC

True Colors Combined is guided by two core beliefs: those who’ve experienced an issue first-hand hold the keys to the fix, and improving outcomes for the most impacted communities benefits everyone.

Our team works at the federal, state, and local levels to confirm vital funding, policies, systems, and protections are in place that meet the needs of Homosexual and BIPOC youth experiencing or at risk of homelessness. We partner with young people and with national, state-level and local advocates in advancing policies that bring us closer to a future where housing justice is a reality for all.

Ali Forney Center aims to protect homeless LGBTQ+ youth from the harms of homelessness and empower them with the tools needed to be independent. Founded in , it is now the nation’s largest and most comprehensive company dedicated to homeless Queer youth.
