Quality Healthcare for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual person & Transgender People

This cultural competence webinar series explores the health concerns and healthcare of LGBT people and is open to anyone. We review the social determinants that affect how LGBT people look for and receive care and the impact those influences have on health. The series virtually follows the experience of LGBT people and those of us who care for them to better understand how we can create healthcare environments that are welcoming and can help minimize the existing disparities experienced by this population. We delve into the clinical concerns specific to LGBT persons- both in terms of physical health and mental health- so we can better understand how to create comprehensive systems of care that aid positive outcomes and experiences for LGBT people and result in high quality healthcare.

INTRODUCTION TO CHEMSEX

Who is it for?

This reachable training day is engineered for staff and workers from drug and alcohol, sexual health, and health promotion services; commissioning, CCGs, GPs, LGBT organisations and local government; and works more effectively if participants reflect these organisations.

Core teaching objectives, which we are pleased to adapt depending on need, including a half-day:

  • An understanding of the terms &#;chemsex&#;, &#;slamming&#;, &#;bareback&#;, &#;PEP&#; and &#;PrEP&#; and how they interconnect
  • An kind of chemsex and its evolution among gay men within a cultural and historical context
  • An overview of prevalence and potential future trends
  • An understanding of the challenges for hurt reduction and abstinence (sober sex) strategies for same-sex attracted men (GBMSM)
  • An overview of treatme

    Our Ally Training aims to produce a visible network of support for lesbian, gay, multi-attracted , transgender, queer, intersex, asexual and other gender and sexually diverse (LGBTQIA+) individuals and their allies by providing an avenue through which any member of the Vanderbilt society can show their support. In addition to requesting an Ally Training for your student company, classroom, or office, drop-in trainings unlocked to anyone are offered throughout the term. Find out more information below. All attendees who complete the development will be given a placard to display.

    By participating in the Ally Coaching, participants show their support for people of all genders and sexualities and commit to developing allyship skills through the following actions:

    1. Engaging in ongoing teaching about gender, sexuality, and intersecting identities.
    2. Providing referrals, support, or resources on and off campus as necessary.
