Jennifer Lopez honoured at homosexual awards
Jennifer Lopez has been honoured at an event celebrating positive portrayals of the gay, lesbian, pansexual and transgender community in the media.
The year-old received the Vanguard Award at the Glaad Media awards in Los Angeles for her advocacy of queer rights.
She was also recognised for her role as executive producer on The Fosters, a US drama series about a womxn loving womxn couple.
The American Idol decide paid tribute to her "loyal" GLBT fans for being "always on the floor and in my heart".
"If I do anything that makes one toddler out there feel empowered my dream has appear true," she told an audience at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
The singer and actress received the Vanguard award, an accolade previously bestowed upon Cher, Liza Minnelli and Dame Elizabeth Taylor.
Other winners on Saturday included Canadian singing twins Tegan and Sara, NBC soap Days of Our Lives and The Fosters itself, which received the award for outstanding drama series.

Jennifer Lopez has a new romantic comedy, The Back-Up Plan, coming out in April 23 so shes doing all kinds of interviews to promote it.
Fortunately, one of those interviews was with Brandon Voss for The Advocate.

Gay directors have helmed two of your most achieving movies — Robert Luketic on Monster-in-Law and Adam Shankman on The Wedding Planner. Alan Poul, who directed The Back-Up Plan, is also gay. So that’s a good sign, right?
It’s true. I get along with the gays — what can I tell you? We click. Gay directors have a certain sensitivity when it comes to women’s issues; I don’t know if that makes any sense, but that’s what I feel. They also have a tremendous sense of humor about life, so they know idealistic comedy. I love them.
Does The Back-Up Plan feature a “gay best friend” cliché — maybe the guy your character asks for sperm in the film’s trailer?
