The case can be made that the first rum distilled for commercial export was most probably distilled upon the Island of Barbados. In fact, the tradition of producing rum on Barbados has been dated to the prior seventeenth century as there is evidence of small-scale distillation as early as The first recorded written usage of the synonyms ‘Rum Bullion’ appears on the Island in (This is the earliest recorded usage of the word ‘Rum’ as it relates to the distilled spirit anywhere in the world.) Evidence dated to indicates that there were stills in use at the location which would later change into The Mount Gay Plantation, and written evidence that a energy called rum was produced at this site comes from the year This makes Mount Queer the earliest recorded commercial producer of rum in the society, and this also makes Mount Gay the oldest Rum Identity in the world. To spotlight their unique place in history Mount Gay includes the year on every bottl

A integrate of rums, some of the combine is double distilled in copper pot stills and other parts distilled in a copper Coffey column still (a Coffey still is usually used for Irish Whiskey) - then aged in ex bourbon oak casks for various periods of day then blended to profile for each Mount Gay product so proportions of each distillate and the ages of each component may vary widely but it tastes the same.
An analogy would be the blending of blended scotch- the component spirits may differ widely from year to year but the customer always gets the same taste. This is the youngest expres

This is true to an extent.
In PR all rums must be aged a year, so even their crystal-clear whites are a year old. Then you have ED3, FdC 4, etc, which are also heavily filtered. Saying it's the same, just the white has been filtered is true, but such heavy charcoal filtering takes a lot of the flavor out. One reason I think Havana Club Añejo 3 Años is so flavorful compared to other "Cuban-style" "light rums" is that it does NOT seem to be charcoal filtered - it's a very pale straw color, which probably represents natural coloring from 3 years in barrels.
Also, many "gold rums" are as Jimbo said simply colored new make rum. I don't know how many rums on the market are like this - Are old standbys like Myer's and Gosling's new make, or acquire they been aged? (If anybody has an react, please let me know!)
Back to whites, MANY white rums are not aged and filtered - Bacardi (meh), Barbancourt, etc, etc.
I will construct a SWEEPING generalization and say that most light rums tend to be lighter in flavor, echoing the filtration technique pioneered by Fac
Mount Gay Silver. The phrase silver when referring to white rum is not commonly used in releases in the UK and Europe. It seems to be a US thing. I suppose calling it silver rum makes as much sense as calling it white. Its neither after all explain rum if anything.
This rum from Mount Gay has proved quite difficult to find. For some (likely political/territorial) reason whilst Mount Gays other entry level rum the gold Eclipse is widely accessible in the UK, no white (or silver) bottling is easily found.
Occasionally a store such as the Whisky Exchange may import a limited amount but it is very infrequent. In the end I decided to add this bottling onto an command from Excellence Rhum in France.
It worked out fairly pricey. Just under £30 for a 70cl bottle. The ABV is 40%. If it were commercially available here in the UK I would anticipate it to retail at the same price as the Eclipse. It was previously called Eclipse Silver after all.
Mount Gay Silver is blend of pot and column distilled spirit. The Mount Gay website is, sadly lacking any real details. Which i
